Tropical Storm Melissa Threatens Jamaica, Cuba, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, and ABC Islands

By Tracyann Dunkley | Weather Watch

Tropical Storm Melissa in the central Caribbean is posing a serious threat to Jamaica and neighboring islands. Gale warnings are already in effect, and residents across the region should prepare for worsening conditions.

A broad area of low pressure, designated as AL98, is organizing rapidly over the central Caribbean Sea. As of early Tuesday, October 21, 2025, the system is producing gale-force winds reaching up to 40 knots (approximately 46 mph), with seas building as high as 13 feet in the northern and eastern quadrants.

The system is moving slowly, which raises concerns for prolonged rainfall and potential flooding. Islands currently under the greatest threat include Jamaica, Cuba, Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic), Puerto Rico, and the ABC Islands (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao). These areas should be on high alert for heavy rainfall, flash flooding, strong winds, and dangerous surf over the coming days.

A gale warning is already in effect for parts of the Caribbean Sea, and additional watches or warnings may be issued as the system intensifies. Residents and local authorities are urged to monitor official updates closely and begin storm preparations now, especially in Jamaica, where the system’s projected path could bring direct impacts by midweek

All Angles UK encourages readers in the Caribbean and those with travel plans to the region to keep a close eye on updates from local meteorological services and the National Hurricane Center. We’ll continue to monitor this wave and provide timely updates should any signs of intensification emerge. Stay safe and stay informed.
